Ozark

OZARK…. Mr. Wesley Staples, a resident of Ozark, died late Monday evening, June 15, 2020 at the home of his daughter, Kim Tharpe. He was 89.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 18, 2020 in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Roger Campbell and Reverend Russell Hagler officiating. Graveside services with military rites, will follow at Woodlawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice, 2740 Headland Avenue, Dothan, Alabama 36303.

Mr. Staples, son of the late Arthur Abe Staples and Callie Ramsey Staples, was a native of Mayodan, North Carolina. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the United States Army. Mr. Staples moved to Ozark in 1970 and was employed with Jerry Mitchell Chevrolet as an auto body mechanic for over twenty-nine years. He was a member of the Ozark First Assembly of God Church. Mr. Staples enjoyed fishing and working in his yards maintaining flowers and the lawn. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Yulonda “Lannie” Hagler; two brothers, Jimmy Staples and Leslie Staples.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Merle Stewart Staples; two daughters, Kim Tharpe (Lee) and Rhonda Childers (James); two sons, Arthur A. Staples and Darryl Staples, all of Ozark; three sisters, Juanita Rollins, Nancy Godwin, and Doris Hall (Jay), all of North Carolina; seven step-children, fourteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sixteen step-grandchildren, eighteen step great-grandchildren, and fourteen step great-great-grandchildren.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Blake Childers, Alex Childers, Spencer Childers, Ethan Tharpe, Travis Tharpe, Tristan Tharpe, and Wesley Staples.
