Susan Sowell

Ozark

OZARK… Mrs. Susan Eich Sowell, a resident of Ozark, died Thursday afternoon, April 29, 2021 at her home from a long battle with cancer. She was 80.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, May 2, 2021 in the First United Methodist Church of Ozark with Reverend Stephan Margeson and Reverend Dr. Billy Gaither officiating. Interment will follow in the Meditation Garden on the church grounds. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 P.M. Sunday at the church.  Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Ozark, 167 E. Broad Street, Ozark, AL 36360 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Susan was born in Columbus, Georgia and moved to Abbeville where she graduated from Abbeville High School in 1959. She met the love of her of life, Dan Sowell and they were married in 1963. Susan attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery and Auburn University, later becoming a stay-at-home Mom for some eighteen years. She then began working at Farmer’s & Merchants Bank in Ariton and Ozark and then later Pea River Electric Cooperative for fifteen years before retiring in 2003.

Susan was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for more than fifty years. She was a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class, the Lois Robinson Circle and United Methodist Women. Susan had many wonderful friends and enjoyed them very much. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Mizelle Eich and Cathryn Carter Eich of Abbeville.

Surviving relatives include her husband of fifty-eight years, Dan Lewis Sowell and their daughters, Dana Alums (Stacey), Ozark and Nancy Kay Watson (Gil) of Arab, AL; two favorite grandchildren, Kayleigh Suzanne Watson, Arab, AL and Joshua Tanner Watson, Huntsville; several cousins and other relatives.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Seekers Sunday School Class, Dr. Taylor Caffey, Curt Dunn, Angel Collier Ham, and Morgan Jackson.

The family would like to thank Dr. Taylor Caffey, Dr. Scott McAllister, Dr. Hejal Patel, their staffs, Amedisys Home Health Care and Day Spring Hospice for their loving care and support.
