DOTHAN…. Mr. Larry Stokes, a resident of Dothan, died Tuesday morning, December 29, 2020 in a Dothan hospital. He was 69.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 31, 2020 in the Newton City Cemetery with Reverend Shane Traylor officiating. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.

Mr. Stokes, son of the late Charles Edward Stokes and Lucille Skinner Stokes, was a native of Elba and was a graduate of Elba High School. He was a Vietnam War Veteran having served in the United States Army. Mr. Stokes attended Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in Andalusia. He was a talented guitar player and played in several bands over the years. In the rest of his spare time, he enjoyed spending time on the river fishing.  Mr. Stokes was formerly employed as a Federal Game Warden at Ft. Rucker. He has lived in the Dothan area for the past ten years. Mr. Stokes was preceded in death by a son, Marty Stokes; brother, David Stokes; his wife, Gail McVay Stokes.

Surviving relatives include his two sons, Kevin Stokes (Jana), Newton and Jamie Rigdon, Earlytown, AL; two sisters, Marilyn Macon, New Brockton and Carolyn Hornsby (Clyde), Ozark; two brothers, Mickey Stokes (Linda), Brundidge, AL and Kenneth Stokes, Elba; seven grandchildren, Colton Stokes, Peyton Stokes, Kara Glover Stokes, Austin Rigdon, Kayden Stokes, Mason Rigdon, and Logan Stokes.
