VILLA RICA, GEORGIA…Mr. Johnny Byrd, a resident of Villa Rica, Georgia (formerly of Ozark), died Thursday evening, March 2, 2023, at his home. He was 61.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, March 5, 2023, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with his brother, Reverend Steve Byrd, Reverend Keith Hamilton, and Reverend Harold Peters officiating. Graveside services, with Reverend Bill Weed officiating, will follow in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the church. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements.

Johnny was born August 19, 1961, in Dale County, Alabama and was a graduate of Carroll High School. He was a very compassionate person who loved people and enjoyed helping people. Johnny loved working on the farm, stacking hay, welding, cutting grass and assisting people in cleaning their yards. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his daughter, Erica. Johnny worked with Kroger Grocery Store for thirty-two years as the Assistant Manager of the Meat Department in Macedonia, Georgia prior to his illness. He was a special friend to everyone and enjoyed a great relationship with his brother, Steve. Johnny will always be remembered for his many pranks, his jokes and most of all cooking on the grill. He was preceded in death by father, Pernell Byrd; grandparents, Will and Agnes Danner Byrd and L.M. and Ida Fralish Peters; seven aunts and seven uncles.

Surviving relatives include his daughter, Erica Byrd, Villa Rica, Georgia; mother, Sarah Byrd Cooper (Charles), Ozark; sister, Barbara Byrd Logan (Danny), Ozark; brother, Reverend Steve Byrd (Donna), Carrollton, Texas; mother of his daughter, Norma Butler, Villa Rica, Georgia; ex-brother-in-law and wife, Richard Butler (Antia); nieces, Valerie Young (Bryan), Lydia Byrd, and Ashley Butler; grand-nieces, Dee Young and Carolina Logan; nephews, David Logan (Allie), Preston Byrd and grandnephew, Michael Young; numerous friends in Alabama and Georgia; step-sister, Renae Copper Mundt, step-brother, Steve Cooper, step-nephews, Chip and Dustin Cooper, Taylor and Dalton Mundt, and step-nieces, Brittaney Cooper Young and Haylee Cooper Piper.

Serving as active pallbearers will be William Byrd, Keith Tharp, Gary Peters, Kevin Peters, Chris Peters, Corsey Peters, Edwin Peters, Randy Mosley, Tim Allen, and Leroy McCarter.
