MIDLAND CITY… Emma Kate Jernigan, a resident of Midland City, died late Tuesday morning, July 12, 2022, in the emergency room of Dale Medical Center. She was 9 years old

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 16, 2022, in the First United Methodist Church of Ozark with Reverend Dr. Jason Thrower and Reverend Bill Trawick officiating. Graveside services will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery with Dr. Joseph Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 6:30 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vivian B. Emma Kate was born at twenty-seven weeks, weighing fifteen ounces and spent twenty months between RNICU @ University of Alabama and Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham. Emma Kate was a miracle from God from Day 1. She overcame many obstacles in her short 9 ½ years. Emma Kate was a blessing to all who met her. She attended Vivian B. Adams School in Ozark. Emma Kate’s favorite quote, “I am brave, I am a big girl, I can do this”. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Clyde Floyd Johnston; great-grandparents, Tee Lisenby and Kathryn Byrd Lisenby Lee, and Martha DeShazo Mitchell.

Surviving relatives include her parents, Eric and Susan Johnston Jernigan, Midland City; maternal grandparents, Beverly Lisenby Folmar (Sam), Dothan; paternal grandparents, Earl and Sonja Mitchell Jernigan, Dothan; paternal great-grandfather, Ray Mitchell, Dothan; uncles, Will Johnston, Dothan and Joe Jernigan, San Francisco, California; great-aunt, Debra Clackley (Vernon), Columbia, South Carolina; great-uncles, Cy Lisenby (Gail), Ozark and Michael Mitchell (Chris), Birmingham; several cousins including, Tanner Johnston and Trevor Johnston; numerous other relatives and friends.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Brandon Ganey, Mike Reeder, Aaron Mitchell, and Michael Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers will be the Vivian B. Adams School Staff and Faculty.
