OZARK...Mrs. Nancy Ellen Elmore Gunter, a resident of Ozark, near Newton, died late Monday afternoon, April 15, 2024, at her home. She was 86. 

         Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, April 19, 2024, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Adam Mulliner officiating. Burial will follow in Newton City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements.

         In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to cover final expenses.
 

         Nancy Ellen Elmore Gunter, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on April 15, 2024, in Ozark, Alabama. She was born on April 8, 1938, in Wicksburg, Alabama, to her loving parents George Elmore and Lela Watson Elmore. Nancy's life was marked by love for her family and a deep connection to her roots. She was a native of Wicksburg and attended the Wicksburg School System. During her school years, she worked on the family farm, instilling in her a strong work ethic and appreciation for the land. In the 1960s, she made Ozark her home and found true love when she married Travis Gunter in 1961. Known for her warmth and kindness, Nancy had a passion for beach trips, fishing adventures, baking delicious cakes, and creating beautiful quilts. However, above all else, she cherished spending time with her grandchildren and family members. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents George and Lela Elmore, as well as her husband Travis Gunter; son, Bobby Gunter; daughter Billie Jean Scott; grandson Dylan Gunter; great-great-grandson Jaxon OFerrell; sisters, Ruth Priebe, Ruby Smith, Annie Mae Blankenship, Elizabeth Walden; brothers Frank Elmore, Kenneth Elmore, Byron Elmore, James Elmore. 

             She is survived by her daughters Sandra Griffin of Gulf Shores; Stacey Jones (Jeff) of Santa Rosa, FL; son Travis Gunter of Ozark; sister Wilma Bodiford (David) of Newton; grandchildren Leighann Gunter, Kelsea Oferrell-Andrew, Huntlea Roberts-Iahn, Brian Scott, Peyton Lynch-Matt; great-grandchildren, Logan Kirkley, Corbin Tanner, Nathan Morgan, Greysen Gill, Marjorie Roberts, Neyland Lynch, Hadlea OFerrell, Knoxlea OFerrel and Connor OFerrel and Koen Gill; great-great grandchildren, Kolton Tanner and Kyston Tanner.

           Nancy's legacy of love and joy will live on through the lives she touched. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her but will remain forever alive in their hearts.
