Hannelore Haas Wood

OZARK…Hannelore (Haas) Wood, a resident of Ozark, died Monday, April 24, 2023. She was 81.

     Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 29, 2023, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chad Ingle officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.

     Mrs. Wood, daughter of the late Karl Haas and Emilie (Bittner) Haas, was a native of Mannheim, Sandhofen, Germany until moving with her husband and four children to the United States. Mrs. Wood worked diligently as a home maker and was a military spouse while her husband completed his military career and settled in Ozark, Alabama. Mrs. Wood was a YABA League Coach at the Fort Rucker Bowling Alley and an avid volunteer at many of the Fort Rucker organizations, volunteering as many as 2000 hours annually. Her biggest joy was playing bingo, knitting, plastic canvas, spending time with the Fort Rucker Enlisted Wives Club, the German Wives Club and working the Annual Thanksgiving Bazaar and Christmas Gift Wrap fundraiser that supported many of the none profit organizations. Mrs. Wood also made charity funds available for the annual college scholarships for local outstanding students. In the final 15 years of retirement for both Hannelore and Harrison they enjoyed RV camping with initially several different travel trailers before upsizing to a full-size Class C traveling and camping through the eastern part of the United States with friends and family.

 

     Mrs. Wood is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 52 years, Harrison H Wood; six siblings, Karl Heinz, Gerhart, Johan, Emie, Elsie and Marianna all from Germany; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Wood; son-in law Brian Young; great grandson son, Ryan Adam Norman.

     Survivors include her children; Joseph Wood (Lea), Dothan Alabama, Michelle Young, Connelly NY, Patricia Latham, Montgomery AL, Debbie Whittle (David), Daleville Alabama, Joseph Wood (Joni), Ozark Alabama; grandchildren; Brittany Green (Joseph),  Zachary Wood, Racheal English (Clay), Traci Burt (Alan), Heather Mayr (Jared), Joshua Latham, Crystina, Indasia, Taleea, and Kimora Whittle; great grandchildren,  Timmy Green, Christopher Latham, Mackenzie English, Reagan Burt, Landon, Austin, Mackenzie Mayr, Micheal, Ian Wood, True and Aria Whittle; siblings,  Sophie Retzmann, Sandhofen, Germany, Walter Haas, Lampertheim, Germany, Manfred Haas, Sandhofen, Germany; several nieces and nephews.

     Serving as pallbearers will be Zachary Wood, Joseph H. Wood, Terry Latham, Joseph Green, Timmy Green, and John L. Cawley.
