David Surginer

DALEVILLE…Mr. David Surginer, a resident of Daleville, died late Thursday afternoon, January 30, 2025, in a Dothan hospital. He was 81.

 Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 6, 2025, at The Gathering Place, 630 Porter Andrews Road, Ozark, Alabama, with Pastor Michael Woodham officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will be held at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Thursday at The Gathering Place.

 Mr. Surginer, son of the late Lawrence Thomas Surginer and Lera Louise Skaggs Surginer, was a native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He lived most of his lifetime in Corpus Christi and Dallas, Texas before moving to Daleville in 2018. One of his greatest passions was music, especially playing the Bass Guitar, for the Living Proof Band. Mr. Surginer coached Pee Wee Football for over thirty years and most recently in Daleville for the Daleville Warhawks. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a member of the Daleville Masonic Lodge #903 where he was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a Past Master of Portland Lodge, Portland, Texas. Mr. Surginer attended Chalkhead Baptist Church in Ozark. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Leslie Surginer, a grandson, Kyle Koffer, two sisters, Helen Humphrey and Martie Armstrong, and a brother, Acie Surginer.

 Surviving relatives include his wife of twenty eight years, Phyllis Carpenter Surginer, Daleville; his children, Ailene Koffer (Tony), Corpus Christi, Texas, Audrey Surginer (Marty), Fort Worth, Texas, Samantha Rexrode (Jason), Fort Worth, Texas, Steve Dubose (Karen), Richmond, Kentucky, and Rexanne Johnson (Staff Sergeant, United States Army, Retired, Billy Johnson), Enterprise; sister, Patricia Coleman, Sinton, Texas; two brothers, E.L. Surginer (Margaret), San Antonio, Texas and Larry Surginer (Barbara), Corpus Christi, Texas; twenty one grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
