NEWTON… Charles A. Horchen, a resident of Newton, died early Monday morning, May 8, 2023, in Westside Terrace Healthcare Facility in Dothan. He was 93.

            A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 13, 2023, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Chris Boutin officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Building Fund, 475 Camilla Avenue, Ozark, AL 36360.

            Mr. Horchen, son of the late Paul Horchen, Sr. and Anne Malhako Horchen, was a native of Wilcox, Pennsylvania. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Horchen married the love of his life, Gladys Payne Horchen, and was married to her for sixty-seven years. Prior to moving to Newton in 1975, he was a contractor and lived in Montgomery. Mr. Horchen was a family-oriented man who loved to fish and enjoyed gardening. One of his greatest passions was remodeling. He retired from Ft. Rucker as a building inspector with plans and services department. Mr. Horchen was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Payne Horchen; sisters, Mary Marrone and Kathleen Horchen; brothers, Michael Horchen, Paul Horchen, Jr., and Frank Horchen.

            Surviving relatives include his two sons, John Arthur Horchen (Kim), Newton and Jerome Beasely (Joyce), Dallas, Texas; sister, Anna Olsen (Skip), Kane, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Heidi Crider (Chad), Stephanie Cody (Mike), David Beasley, Michele Thompson (Brian), and Karen Beasley; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
