Daleville

/DALEVILLE…In Loving Memory of Charles Bullard Sergeant First Class, United States Army, Retired Charles Robert Bullard, loving husband, father, Opa, Papa, friend, and man of God, was born September 28, 1937, to William and Sarah Lois Bullard in Anderson, Indiana. Charles was called peacefully to his eternal home on December 13, 2025.

Charles led a life that can only be described as selfless, dedicating his life to serving his country, community, and family. This dedication began shortly after his graduation in 1957 when he joined the United States Army. Throughout the 60s, he served as platoon sergeant in the 416th Transportation Company until his first tour in Vietnam in the 359th Transportation Company. He went on to serve a second tour in Vietnam as truck master in the 61st Transportation Company. Before his retirement from the armed forces in 1977, he served in the 33rd Armor Regiment in Germany.

Charles’s service did not end with this retirement, as he went on to serve the community of Daleville for the duration of his career as a police officer and investigator, as well as in the S.W.A.T. and fire services. Throughout this time, Charles also led the Daleville Police Explorer Program, served in the Civil Air Patrol and was an honorary lieutenant colonel in the Alabama State Militia and deputy sheriff in Dale County. All who met Charles can attest to his life of selflessness. He was a greatly respected and beloved pillar of his community, and his loss is felt by many.

Charles was predeceased in 1993 by his loving wife and mother of his four children, Hildegard Bullard. Throughout their 31 years of marriage, Hildegard served faithfully alongside Charles as a volunteer police auxiliary officer and member of the Daleville rescue squad.

Charles later married Sandra J. Fischer Bullard in 2001. The two shared twelve wonderful years together until her passing in 2013. Charles’s legacy continues nationwide as he is survived by his children: Ruth Schiepe, Thomas (Beverly) Bullard, Orson (Beth) Bullard, Charleen (Christopher) McNally, and stepchildren Robin (Nelson) Amaya and Carrie (Keith) Shanklin. He is also survived by his many loving grandchildren: BobbieJo (Jason) Martin; Caitlin (Jacob) Wasem; Christiana (Thomas) Jackson; Chelsea (Dominique) Lobban; Claire (Andrew) Kirby; Christopher, Camille, and Cole McNally; Brandon and Chloe Shanklin; and Charles, Robert, Russell Amaya, and Jason Bullard;.
