ARITON…Mrs. Carolyn Moore Peavy, a resident of Ariton, died Monday morning, August 11, 2025, in Oakview Manor Retirement Center in Ozark. She was 88.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Universalist Cemetery in Ariton with Reverend Roy Turner officiating. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
Mrs. Peavy, born to Adam Clinton Moore and Flossie Mae Carothers Moore, was born in Gastonia, North Carolina—a place that shaped her early years with the love of family and the values of hard work and kindness. Though she started her life in North Carolina, her heart found its true home in Ariton, Alabama, where she moved in 1949 and built a life full of love, faith, and quiet strength.
She spent many years working as a seamstress at Van Heusen in Ozark, and she took great pride in her craft. Her hands were skilled and steady, stitching not just fabric but care and dedication into everything she made. Whether it was a shirt for a stranger or a hem for a friend, she worked with patience and precision. Her work wasn’t just about sewing—it was about providing, creating, and contributing to her community. She was a former member of the Ariton United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, L.J. Peavy of sixty-one years, with whom she shared a life of love, laughter, and partnership. Their bond was one built on mutual respect and deep affection, and she carried his memory with her always. She also mourned the loss of her sisters,
Margaret M. Simard and Dorothy M. Posey, and her brothers, Junior Moore, Leamon Moore, and Joe Moore. Each sibling held a special place in her heart, and their absence was felt deeply. She also grieved the passing of her brothers-in-law—A.B. Peavy, J.W. Peavy, and Jim Peavy—members of a family that meant the world to her.
Surviving relatives include her sister-in-law, Nancy Peavy Whilden, Ozark; several nieces and nephews.
