OZARK…Mrs. Augusta McClendon, a resident of Ozark, died late Saturday morning, August 29, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 85.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 5, 2026, in the Fuqua Bankston Chapel with Reverend Dr. Ronald Britt officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.

Augusta McClendon, affectionately known as Ms. Gussie, age 85, passed away on August 29, 2026. She was born on September 30, 1940, and spent her life rooted in love, faith, and service to others. She was a very soft-spoken person who very seldom raised her voice at anyone.

She was known for her warm spirit, her willingness to help anyone, and her ability to make everyone feel seen and cared for. Many lovingly called her a second mom, a testament to the nurturing heart that she shared with all her crossed her path. Her kindness extended beyond her family and friends, touching the lives of neighbors and strangers alike, always ready with a comforting word or helping hand.

Ms. Gussie was a faithful member of The Believers in Christ Church in Ozark, Alabama for many decades. Her devotion to her church family was unwavering, and she lived out her faith through kindness, generosity, and compassion.

She is survived by her nine children, Margaret Stewart, Voncile Billings, Diane Stewart, Brenda Crittenden, James C. McClendon, Jr., Shirley Williams, Jennifer Domino, Claretha Roberts, and Jacqueline McClendon; bonus daughter, Lisa Stephens. She has host of grandchildren spanning five generations and a host of nieces and nephews who were all special to her.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Argustus and Ida Mae Stewart; her brothers, Freddie, John, and Melvin Stewart; her sisters, Argie Stewart and Emma Stewart, and her grandson, Cornelious Crittenden.

Her legacy of love, kindness, and faith will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Lajuan Stewart, Rahmon Stewart, Rico Billings, Levi Crittenden, Barry Crittenden Jr., Delante Domino, and Kyjuan McClendon.
