Whitney Dawn DeVane, a resident of Dothan, died Thursday, February 7, 2019 in a Birmingham hospital. She was 25.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 11, 2019 in Covenant United Methodist Church, 3610 West Main Street, Dothan with Reverend Kyle Gatlin officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Dothan and Headland. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 9:00 until 11:00 A.M. Monday in the church sanctuary.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made a memorial fund c/o Ameris Bank, 3299 Ross Clark Circle, Dothan, AL 36301.
Whitney was born September 20, 1993 in Dothan and attended preschool at First Presbyterian Church. She completed her entire school years at Providence Christian School where she played volleyball and was chosen as one of the Dothan Eagle Super 12 Volleyball players of the Wiregrass. She was an A/B honor roll student during her school years. After graduation from high school, she attended Troy University where she studied Media Marketing and Global Business. Whitney has been working in finance and banking with Ameris Bank in Dothan as a personal banker.
From the volleyball court to the pageant world, Whitneyโs pageant career began with Miss Houston County in 2011-2012. In 2012, the most unexpected thing happened when she was named Miss National Peanut Festival Queen. The memories made and the people she met during that year taught her so much. She lived everyday by the motto of โmake memoriesโ. In 2013, she won Miss Alabama International and represented Alabama at the Miss International Pageant in Jacksonville, FL. In 2017, Whitney was asked to participate in Dancing with the Stars in Dothan.
Whitney not only was a pageant queen, she was a certified NRA Firearms Instructor, and loved everything outdoors. She was a very well-rounded young lady and lived life to the absolute fullest in her short twenty-five years. In 2018, Whitney was selected to participate in Leadership Dothan and she was sponsored by Ameris Bank. She attended Covenant United Methodist Church. Whitney was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Jesse Leon DeVane and maternal uncle, Billy Wayne Towson, Jr.
Surviving relatives include her parents, Stan and Deborah Townson DeVane, Dothan; fianceโ, Tyler Jordan and his daughter, Collyns Jordan; paternal grandmother, Joy DeVane, Kinsey; paternal aunt, Pam and Tommy Merritt; maternal grandparents, Billy and Lynoitte Townson; maternal aunts, Sheila and Roger Eib and Sandy and Larry Gasser; her sister, Donna DeVane, brother, Stanley Reed DeVane; nephews, Rylee DeVane and Brantley DeVane; many beloved cousins.

My condolences and prayers go out to the Devane family. I've known Whitney less than a year. We were apart of the same Leadership Dothan (37) class, and I had the privilege to share a few cool moments with such a beautiful person. She was extremely kind and always smiling.
I remember we were both late circling in the parking lot trying to find the Rotary Hall at Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center. When we finally found it, I complimented her classic cherry red corvette. I think it had "Devane" on the plates. She had her shades on looking too cool ๐ I share just a couple of memories, but I can imagine the impact she's had on her friends and family. There's no doubt in my heart she was a believer in Christ. It was apparent from the jump.
My prayers go to her family, fiance and friends. And cheers to you Whitney, for you are now present with the Lord!!

Whit, you have shined your light into so many lives while you were here with us. I cannot even find the words to say to show how special and how important your purpose was here in this world. From the moment I met you, I knew we would instantly click, and we did. You told me, โOne day Elle you will be Miss Peanut, you will walk across that stage and make us proud,โ and even though I didnโt go that route you still cheered me on in every milestone I took in my life. Having Laura become Miss Peanut and taking over her responsibilities in Houston County, I was sad and lost and didnโt know if I could do it, but you always, always showed me I could no matter what. You ARE and will ALWAYS be our Miss Houston County & Miss Peanut. Thank you for showing how strong of a person I can be and how amazing my life is now that iโve met you. You are forever in our hearts Whit. We love you.

Sweet Whitney. My heart is broken. I will always remember your smile. You were a friend. Cheering Blaedyn on at his soccer games, his face would always light up when he saw โMitneyโ and wrapped his little arms around your neck, being there to carve his first pumpkin. And us laughing cause he thought it was gross. Coming to see us when Beighler was born just so you could hold the other love of our lives. Your momma told me today you always thought the world of me but honestly the world thought so much more about you. You would have been the most beautiful bride. You will be missed. While you may not have been healed here on this earth you are healed in Heaven with your Creator. Love you Whit!!! ๐๐๐

As long as I got to know Whitney Devane, she had always had a smile on her face and a positive attitude. There was never a full moment with her. She had such a beautiful soul and loved God with everything in her. I was very blessed to call her one of my good friends! Whitney you will forever hold a special place in my heart and you will be missed by so many. I love you lots! I know you are walking the pearly Gates of Heaven now. Your time on Earth was cherished deeply. Thank you for being such a bright soul and for having such a BIG heart! And to ALL of the family I hope you may find peace in the days to come and sorry for the loss of this beautiful soul.๐

Rest in Peace sweet Whitney. Praying for her Parents. I met Whitney when she was Miss Peanut. We became friends on Facebook after that. I told her she would be the best Peanut Queen ever because of her big smile and even bigger heart. Heaven gained another truly beautiful Angel.
